about Maya

Hi, I’m Maya! I’m a Chicago-based actress, artist, and graphic designer.

When I was younger, I was delighted by magic and, specifically, fairies, which spurred a particular interest in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at my local Shakespeare in the Park performances. Since then, I’ve been a passionate actress and made my stage debut as The Wolf in a summer camp production of Little Red Riding Hood when I was 8 years old. While juggling other activities like art, guitar, and gymnastics, acting remained a consistent interest.

As a recent graduate of Northwestern University, I have been a part of numerous theatre and film productions on and off campus. Most notably, I have played Mrs. Cratchit and others in A Nantucket Christmas Carol, Twyla and Roberta in a stage adaptation of Toni Morrison’s short story Recitatif, Ava in the short film A Sweetness of Lapse, and Margot in the film Year One.

I have trained with many artists at Northwestern, the Actors Gymnasium, and in Greece with the International Theatre and Dance Project, and each of those opportunities gave me the chance to develop my skills and learn how to tell the kinds of stories I want to tell; stories with diverse characters that can move people to feel and spur people to action.

I continue to pursue my passion for acting and look forward to a world of theatre and film in Chicago and beyond.
